The Sánchez Lab at the European Institute for Molecular Imaging (EIMI) is seeking to fill a position limited to two years at the earliest starting opportunity.
To meet our high standards every day, we are looking forward to your scientific expertise. The Clinical Epidemiology Unit (clinicalepi.de) uses and develops modern statistical and mathematical methods for the analysis of primary and secondary data. A particular focus of the Unit is the application of dynamic mathematical modelling approaches to simulate the spread of infectious agents in human populations. The Unit coordinates the Interdisciplinary Center of Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Disease Dynamics (IMMIDD; uni-muenster.de/IMMIDD) at the University of Münster and is one of the partners in the Modeling Network for Severe Infectious Diseases (MONID; monid.net) in Germany - ideally with you on board!
Oversee the modelling work in a third-party-funded project on the future potential of vector-borne diseases in Germany and potential countermeasures, which might include analysis and comparisons with the dynamics in tropical countries (VBD-mode, funded by BMFTR; https://clinicalepi.de/projects/vbd-mode.html)
Collaborate closely with national and international partners from various disciplines in academia and public health agencies
Participate in the build-up of a new research field in Germany
Add key evidence to an important and up-to-date research topic
Publish in high-quality peer-reviewed international journals
Master’s degree and (preferably) PhD/doctorate in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Mathematics, Physics or a related discipline
Experience in mathematical modelling, statistical inference, simulation studies and data analysis
Expert knowledge in relevant programming languages (e.g. R, Python, Julia, C++)
Analytical and structured way of working, team orientation and good communication skills as well as a responsible and quality-driven working style
Excellent English language skills, German skills are a plus
Support for obtaining a PhD degree or postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation), including access to all necessary prerequisites
Support for further personal training not directly related to the project (e.g. structured development of leadership competencies)
An interesting and versatile project with challenging tasks
Training and work in a multidisciplinary and committed research team
Salary according to tariff agreement, extra annual payment and company pension plan (VBL)
30 days of vacation per year plus two additional days off on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve
