The Faculty of Natural Sciences, Department of Biological Psychology seeks to fill the following vacancy:
Research scientist (m/f/d)
Salary scale: 13 TV-L
Date commencing: 01.01.2026
Fixed term (until): 3 years
Contract status: 50 %
We are a university with a focus on engineering and natural sciences as well as economics, human sciences and medicine. We offer excellent study and working conditions to 13,000 students from Germany and abroad as well as approx. 3,000 employees.
Requirements profile:
A completed scientific university education (Master's/Diploma) in psychology or in a related subject is required. We further require expertise in experimental-psychological design or fMRI methodology or EEG methodology as well as relevant programming skills (Python and/or Matlab, as well as R); handling of large imaging data sets, data management skills (BIDS) and expertise with scheduling of high-throughput computing clusters are a plus. Necessary knowledge of English is required.
Tasks:
Teaching in the Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Psychology 2 SWS (two hours per week) plus research activity in one of the department’s research foci (see below for details).

We offer the opportunity for further qualification in research (doctorate or habilitation). Our current research topics include sensory-semantic predictions, temporal predictions and multisensory integration and learning (see noesseltlab.org for further details). – The Department of Biological Psychology is part of the Centre for Behavioural Brain Sciences (see cbbs.eu). Through it we offer further excellent opportunities for cognitive-neuroscientific research within a vibrant scientific community. The opportunities include behavioural laboratories with visual, auditory, somatosensory and gustatory cutting edge stimulation devices, several magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners with field strengths of 3 and 7 Tesla, which are used exclusively for research purposes, a computer cluster with over 200 cores for high-throughput fMRI analysis, neurostimulation laboratories (TMS, TDCS, TUS), several electrophysiological laboratories (EEG, MEG) and peripheral physiology measuring devices (eye movement, EKG, EMG) in- and outside the MRI.
