## **The role**

As a **Backend Engineer in Food Systems**, you will define and implement scalable technical solutions for complex business problems. You will drive key initiatives, working closely with stakeholders and collaborating with cross-functional teams to build a global solution that works seamlessly across all markets. Your work will ensure a clear architecture with well-defined boundaries, enabling team autonomy and efficient operations worldwide.

On the technical side, you will leverage modern practices like DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and data-driven approaches to deliver incremental business value. You’ll design and develop scalable solutions while maintaining high-quality standards and ensuring reliability across all systems. Along the way, you’ll benefit from mentorship, workshops, and pair programming to support your professional growth.

## **What you’ll do**

- Work in a cross-functional team, typically 4-6 people, using various technologies and frameworks with a strong focus on **Kotlin Backend**. Work with state-of-the-art technologies like Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS, ReactJS/Next.js, and more.
- **Take ownership** of the architecture, design, development, deployment, and operations of the services you will develop using DevOps practices, pair programming, and other cutting-edge methodologies. 
- **Be an active, solution-oriented membe**r of autonomous, cross-functional agile teams collaborating with Product Owners, Front-end Engineers, Designers, and Business Intelligence teams. 
- **Having** an in-depth understanding of HelloFresh’s core product and architecture and acting as an ambassador for software solutions, offering support and mentorship to colleagues.
- **Solve** software problems that have visible risks, roadblocks, and constraints. Examples might include legacy dependencies, data quality, compliance, and architecture or technology limitations.

## **What you’ll bring**

- Proven experience in software development with strong problem-solving skills and proficiency in one or more programming languages like Java or Kotlin; familiarity with front-end technologies like React/Redux is a strong plus.
- Have knowledge about modern technologies, including containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes, relational and document databases such as PostgreSQL or MongoDB, as well as stream processing and event-driven architectures using tools like Kafka.
- Have good knowledge about end-to-end development processes, including TDD, application tuning/profiling, and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD).
- An agile mindset with a focus on cross-functional collaboration and iterative delivery.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical topics to stakeholders, peers, and junior engineers.
- Enthusiasm for software engineering and passion for mentoring and helping others grow through knowledge-sharing sessions and peer-to-peer learning.
