# Bioinformatics/Research Software Engineer – IT System Administrator (m/f/x)
in München
## Your tasks and responsibilities:
We are offering a two-year postdoctoral / system administrator position (with possibility of extension). The scientific part is focused on the bioinformatics analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) and single-cell multi-omics data in the context of neuroepigenetics. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to all aspects of research, from project design to workflow development and publication. The position also includes daily maintenance and user support as well as long-term planning of our IT infrastructure (servers, storage, backup solutions, high performance computing) for a research institute generating and analysing large amounts of imaging and sequencing data.
Responsibilities:
- Development and maintenance of bioinformatics workflows for NGS data analysis
- Exploratory data analysis of large-scale genomic datasets
- IT support of scientific and non-scientific users
- Design and execution of independent research projects at the interface of data science and neuroepigenetics
- Contribution to scientific publications and presentations
## Your qualifications:
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in Linux and high-performance computing (HPC) systems
- Experience with workflow management systems (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake)
- Familiarity with NGS data formats (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF) and bioinformatics tools
- Demonstrated ability to perform exploratory data analysis and interpret complex datasets
- Excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, R)
- Experience in system administration
- High degree of self-motivation, communication skills and competence
- Strong written and spoken English skills, good working German knowledge
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with single-cell RNA seq and/or single-cell ATAC seq data analysis
- Experience with bulk epigenomic data (e.g. WGBS, RRBS, ChIP-seq, CUT&Tag)
