The Leibniz Institute of Virology (LIV) is an independent research institution for basic biomedical research. As a foundation under civil law and member of the Leibniz Association, the institute occupies a leading position both nationally and internationally.
The Research Department Virus Genomics, headed by Prof. Adam Grundhoff, investigates chronically infecting DNA viruses, with a focus on the role of chromatin control mechanisms during viral latency and virus-induced tumorigenesis. We are particularly interested in fundamental principles that allow DNA viruses to disrupt, evade, or exploit host chromatin pathways (DFG Research Unit DEEP-DV, FOR5200). The group uses experimental infection systems, an array of high-throughput sequencing methods (e.g., scRNA-seq, ChIP-seq, CUT&Tag, ATAC-seq, EM-seq), and single-molecule live-cell imaging techniques to investigate mechanisms and outcomes of viral chromatin control.
We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious, and team-oriented candidate for a
Postdoc Position (f/m/x) in Chromatin Biology of Gammaherpesvirus Infection
Conducting and shaping a research project on chromatin control in cells infected with Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV)
Performing experimental laboratory work to investigate molecular cross-talk between KSHV and EBV in different cell systems, including primary B cells and lymphoid organoids
Analyzing primary data and integrating results with published scientific data and literature
Presenting research findings at national and international level
Drafting manuscripts and developing future research projects
Integrating into the research team and providing support for junior members and students
Solid experience in cell biology and experimental laboratory work
Expertise in bioinformatic sequence data analysis and/or virology is a plus
Strong commitment, team spirit, very good communication and organizational skills, and ability to work in an independent and flexible manner
PhD degree in the life sciences
Very good English language skills (oral and written)
Working as part of a highly motivated team in a state-of-the-art, international research environment with excellent core facilities
Remuneration according to EG 13 TV-AVH (Hamburg Employment Law Association Collective Agreement) (comparable to TVöD - Civil Service Collective Agreement), including company pension scheme
30 days of annual vacation
Further training opportunities, including subsidized English and German courses at the Institute
Grant for unscheduled child care
Health protection offers at the Institute (in cooperation with voiio GmbH)
Flexible, family-friendly working hours
HVV Deutschlandticket subsidy
Canteen use subsidy
The position is initially limited for three years with possibility for extension. We are seeking to fill the position as soon as possible.
