### What to Expect
Join Tesla’s Manufacturing Test Engineering team as an Electrical Design Engineer, where you'll design cutting-edge electrical systems for test equipment embedded in our manufacturing lines. This hands-on role focuses on contributing innovative ideas, developing proof-of-concepts, supporting mass production, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create best-in-class test systems for Tesla’s vehicle offerings (Model 3/Y, Semi Truck, Cybertruck, CyberCab) and energy products (Supercharger, Megapack, Powerwall). You'll work in a dynamic environment, emphasizing robust, data-centric production testing for high-voltage electronic components in vehicles, stationary storage, and related applications. Expect a fast-paced setting with up to 20% domestic and international travel to support multi-site operations.
### What You’ll Do
* Architect novel, fully automated testing machinery from first principles, balancing cost, lead time, complexity, and test coverage across disciplines
* Design novel electronics using Altium, to optimize machine to product interfaces and overcome technical limitations with of the shelf hardware
* Research and specify electrical test components, including measurement devices, power supplies, sensors, I/O devices, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers, to meet test requirements.
* Design schematics and layouts for industrial electrical control panels using tools like EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
* Implement and validate reliable industrial safety systems to safeguard high-voltage and mechanical hazards, including analyzing safety performance levels (PL) for compliant hardware and programming.
* Debug and optimize automated processes to minimize cycle time and maximize uptime.
* Characterize and validate equipment using statistical approaches (e.g., GR&R, Cpk)
* Perform bench testing on electrical components to validate test processes
### What You’ll Bring
* Hands-on experience as an Electrical, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineer, with a focus on automation, machine design, or product development in industrial/manufacturing environments.
* Proficiency in building complex machine schematics using Electrical CAD software, such as EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical.
* Experience in PCBA design using Altium, and circuit simulation tools
* Exposure to high-voltage power electronics (e.g., inverters, DC-DC converters) and building electrical/control systems from first principles for test systems or production machinery.
* Strong skills in specifying and integrating electrical test equipment, including power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power analyzers.
* BS/MS in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent experience).
* Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and analytical abilities, with a passion for hands-on problem-solving in a high-responsibility environment.
