The Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG) is the university computing centerfor the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and a computing and IT competence center for the Max Planck Society.The provision of high-performance HPC systems has been one of its tasks for over 40 years. In 2020, the Universityof Göttingen / GWDG was accepted as one of eight computing centers in the National High-Performance Computing(NHR) network. The GWDG operates the HLRN-IV system “Emmy”, one of the most powerful computers in the world.
As a national supercomputing center, the GWDG offers technical support to researchers and students from variousscience domains using sophisticated computer codes, including earth system science, life science, and engineering.We also participate in both national and international research projects. At the same time, we aim to improve our closecollaboration with The German Aerospace Center (DLR), and specialized computing centers including the GermanClimate Computing Center (DKRZ) and the Institute for Advanced Simulation Jülich (IAS-JSC).
As part of our AI Service Center for Sensitive and Critical Infrastructure (KISSKI) we have created a number of AI-based services that offer high levels of security and privacy due to being processed on our own hardware. Moreover,as part of KISSKI and the EU AI Factory HammerHAI as well as due to our general efforts to increase the reach of ourAI offerings, we collaborate with a number of customers including universities, public institutions and companies inorder to explore the application of AI technologies to customer use cases.
The GWDG together with the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science and the Campus Institute Data Science(CIDAS) of the University of Göttingen provides a stimulating research environment in Scientific Computing, with anopportunity to conduct research in the intersection of applied computer science, High-Performance Computing, AI,and Machine Learning.
Responsibilities
We have a wide range of potential responsibilities that we would like to discuss with you. Your responsibilities in ourteam could include, for example:
Further development of our AI services (including Chat AI, Voice AI and Image AI)
Further development of the SAIA Platform (Scalable Artificial Intelligence (AI) Accelerator)
Implementation and optimization of inference jobs on our HPC cluster
Support for scientists and companies in the development of AI services
Representation at workshops and conferences
Design appropriate solutions to address customer use cases building upon our existing AI infrastructure
Document solutions for internal knowledge sharing and customer handover
Requirements
Successfully completed academic university degree (master's or bachelor's degree) in computer science orrelated fields
Very good programming skills in a high-level programming language, primarily Python
Very good Linux skills (e.g. Bash scripting, Git, containers)
Good knowledge of software engineering (security, testing)
Good knowledge of DevOps (e.g. Gitlab, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, pytest)
Good knowledge of databases (SQLModel, SQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite)
Experience with web development (HTTP, FastAPI, HTML, JavaScript)
Basics in generative AI (e.g. LLMs, diffusion models, and use with Pytorch or Tensorflow)
Experience with the use of HPC systems desirable (e.g. SLURM)
Excellent analytical skills
Excellent problem-solving skills
Very good English skills
Willingness to travel on business
Desirable
Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical customers
Experience with customer-facing technical roles
Basics in agile software development (e.g. Kanban, Scrum)
Experience with service-oriented user support
Exposure to HPC, scientific computing, or data-intensive domains
Intermediate knowledge of German
